Predicting Pitchfork: Results

Pitchfork released its top albums of the year today, and their picks varied from my predictions quite a bit. This is their order. In parentheses is where I thought that album would be. (While we’re on the subject, I would recommend Eric Harvey’s note on sales figures for these albums, which is always an interesting way of showing how small this tiny alt-verse really is.)

1. Bon Iver- Bon Iver (2)
2. Destroyer- Kaputt (5)
3. M83- Hurry Up We’re Dreaming (4)
4. PJ Harvey- Let England Shake (9)
5. Girls- Father, Son, Holy Ghost (1)
6. Oneohtrix Point Never- Replica (11)
7.  tUnE-yArDs- w h o k i l l (not ranked- damn)
8. Drake- Take Care (6)
9. Real Estate- Days (14)
10. The Weeknd- House of Balloons (8)
11. St. Vincent- Strange Mercy (12)
12. James Blake- James Blake (10)
13. EMA- Past Life Martyred Saints (not ranked)
14. Shabazz Palaces- Black Up (not ranked)
15. Fleet Foxes- Helplessness Blues (not ranked)

I was close on my 7 prediction of Kurt Vile’s Smoke Ring for My Halo, which was P-Fork’s 17. Watch the Throne was my 13 and their 21. I was way off on Fucked Up’s David Comes to Life, which finished 33, way off from my prediction of 3. Even worse, I thought Washed Out would finish at 15, and it wasn’t on the list at all. How dare you, Pitchfork.
