As excited as I was about Smith Westerns, this is really what the second wave of noisy, shoegazey college rock might sound like. I still don’t get the Jesus and Mary Chain comparison, but I definitely hear Violent Femmes in the deceptively simple acoustic guitar dueling. As far as songwriting goes, however, has anyone mentioned Teenage Fanclub?

Furthermore, has anyone asked this band, both members of whom are in their twenties, if they’ve ever heard of any of these other bands? And will any band be good in its own right, without regard to influences, ever again? Were any bands ever?
